The Author and her Mother
The
daughter of a publisher, Joanabell Lewis was born at home (still the
only way to be born inside the city limits) in Beverly Hills, California. She grew up on North Rexford Drive, an upscale location,
with such notable neighbors as Boris Karloff, Betty Grable, Harry James, Hedy
Lamarr and Norma Shearer. While attending Beverly Hills High School, her flair
for writing surfaced, when she became a reporter for the school newspaper.
After attending the University of Southern California, her writing lapsed, when
she married and became the mother of four children. However, her penchant for
writing poetry, and inherent creative skills were ultimately manifested, as she
has authored several books, both in prose and rhyme, inspired by the bedtime
stories she told her children and grandchildren. Currently, she lives in South
Orange County, California, and is putting together her second book, which is all
about growing up in Beverly Hills, in the 1930s and 1940s. As for this book, it
all came about because of a collection of recipes published by the Beverly Hills
Womans Club in 1929, and left to her by her mother, who was a member.
